As a volunteer in Sierra Leone, you will support our partner organization Village Community Development and become part of a vibrant village community in West Africa. You will work side by side with our local project managers Glorious, Kamara and Sylvester, who are fully committed to education, health and sustainable development in the villages of 3 Miles, Makaimba and Makulamba. With them, you will not only get to know the projects, but also the people, their stories, their culture - and learn to look at the world with different eyes.

Your tasks as a volunteer
Your tasks will be as varied as life in the villages themselves. Whether in schools, agriculture or health care - the following activities are possible on site:
Education and school:
- Support for teachers in the classroom
- Homework supervision and creative afternoon activities (e.g. Kiddies Club)

Offers in music, sport, art, dance or English
Agriculture and sustainability:
- Help with the cultivation and harvesting of sweet potatoes, peanuts, maize and co.

Support in the further processing and sale of products
Health and medicine:
- Accompanying medical professionals in hospital and during home visits
- Insight into diagnostics, medication dispensing and education
- Collaboration in hygiene and prevention workshops for the population
What you need for a volunteer assignment in Sierra Leone:
- Minimum age of 18 years
- Good knowledge of English (Level B)
- Interest in Sierra Leonean culture and society
- Enjoy working with children, young people and adults
- Openness, reliability and team spirit
- Willingness to comply with our child protection policy
- Extended police clearance certificate
- Consent to the declarations of liability of ora Kinderhilfe
- Yellow fever vaccination

Your time in Sierra Leone - Living and working in the community
Best period of use: August to May of each year (outside the rainy season)
Duration of assignment: from 3 weeks
You will live in your own room with bathroom in the house of project manager Glorious - in the middle of the village, in the middle of the action. You will also have access to air conditioning and stable Wi-Fi (if there is no power cut). Freshly cooked meals, interacting with the community and immersing yourself in people's everyday lives will make your stay an experience that will leave a lasting impression on you.
