Flood of the century threatens families
After the drought came the flood. The parched soils cannot absorb the large volumes of water. Over one million hectares of agricultural land are under water. Arable land and crops were washed away. The raging floods also destroyed houses, roads and access routes to villages are no longer passable and the population in the mountain villages is cut off. There is a lack of clean drinking water. More than 10,000 people, the livelihood of many Kenyans, drowned in the water. A hunger crisis is looming.
Over 3.1 million people in East Africa are affected by the floods.
