Republic of Moldova

The Republic of Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe. It is very difficult to build a life there. Almost a third of the people born here live in other European countries. In their home country, they cannot find work to earn a living for their families.

The plight of the population

From 2004 to 2014, around 500,000 Moldovans migrated to other countries to work. The proportion of children and old people, on the other hand, is growing. Around 200,000 children spend a large part of the year without their parents - often in institutions or on the street. The elderly also have no one to look after them. Sick and in need of care, they often lead a lonely existence.

Project work

The focus of our work is on maintaining daycare centers. We currently operate five day care centers. Four north of the capital Chisinau, in Zberaioa, in Ivancea, in Chiperceni (the so-called "Walker House"), in Valcinet (the so-called "Esther House") and one south of the capital in Chircaiesti. There, the children receive a warm meal after school, homework supervision and can take part in various creative or sporting activities. Once a year, a summer camp is organized for the children. The children experience a sense of security and community here.

We also run a social center for the elderly. There, needy elderly people are helped with food, medical care as well as winter-proof clothing and human care.
We also regularly send donations in kind to Moldova. Our truck comes five to six times a year and brings 18 tons of food, clothing, hygiene articles, medicines, school supplies and baby food. These are distributed fairly among the recipients and help them to ensure their daily survival.

We have also been running an agricultural project in Moldova since 2012. It gives the parents a perspective and ensures that they earn some money regularly for the first time in their lives.

In Chircaiesti, wheat, barley, maize and sunflowers are grown on 333 hectares of good black soil. The harvest is sold and the proceeds go towards wages for the families, new seeds and ora Kinderhilfe's daycare centers and children's homes.

Our project partner

ORA International Moldova runs five children's centers at different locations in the country. In addition to a hot meal and help with their homework, the children who come to the centers also have the opportunity to play, do handicrafts and be outside with other children. They celebrate festivals together throughout the year and go on excursions during the vacations.

Sponsorship program

Many parents are so desperate that they see only one solution. In search of work, they leave their children behind with a heavy heart, left to fend for themselves. In the best case scenario, the children stay with their grandparents. It is mainly these children who receive human warmth in our day care centers. There are currently over 160 children in our sponsorship program.

We would like to help even more. Help us with this.
