Ukraine is the largest country in Eastern Europe. Since 1991, after independence from the Soviet Union, life in this country with its diverse landscape has continued to be characterized by political and economic challenges. But with the start of the Russian war in 2022, people's lives changed completely from one day to the next.
The ongoing conflict with Russia has led to a humanitarian crisis that has forced around 10.3 million people to flee their homes. Around 3.6 million people are looking for a new home in the country. Many live in insecure conditions, struggle with economic difficulties and have limited access to basic services.
Children suffer particularly badly
Children are particularly affected by the armed conflicts. They see their fathers become soldiers, hear bombs falling, have to flee and suffer severe trauma due to fear and the loss of safety and security. Access to education is restricted in many regions as schools are damaged or closed. Psychosocial support is urgently needed to counteract the children's emotional stress. The situation is particularly precarious for children with disabilities.
Our project work
Psychosocial help for mothers and their children
As ora Kinderhilfe, we work together with "Ya-Mama!". The organization has been offering material, psychological, legal and advisory support for families with children with disabilities, single parents, orphans and low-income families since 2010. Since the start of the war, the family center run by "Ya-Mama!" has seen an increased influx of people. Countless mothers and their children are seeking help.
Help for mothers and children
As ora Children's Aid, we support the "Ya-Mama!" center and promote programs to alleviate mental suffering caused by war. Mothers receive targeted advice and support. Children with disabilities receive multidisciplinary therapy with services such as speech therapy and osteopathy. The "Healthy Child. Happy Child" project enables 60 children with developmental delays to receive child-friendly medical and therapeutic treatment and to come to terms with their experiences of war.
Emergency aid through donations in kind
In order to meet the acute humanitarian needs of children and families in Ukraine, we also provide help by regularly transporting donations in kind. Together with our loyal donors, we are able to provide our project partners with high-quality food such as pasta, pastries, baby and children's food, as well as hygiene articles, clothing and school materials. Thousands of people in the Zhytomyr and Uman regions are helped in this way.
You too can support the children and families in Ukraine! Your donation will provide vital help and stability in the midst of war.
