Promoting health - saving lives

Health saves children's lives

Many poor countries lack basic medical care, hospitals and essential medicines. The consequences are tragic: every year, 6.6 million children die before the age of five. In most cases, their deaths could be prevented by medical treatment and vaccinations.

We are committed to ensuring that children grow up healthy and receive medical care. Together with our local partners, we build health stations, provide life-saving vaccinations and medical check-ups and educate people.

Children need a healthy diet

Healthy children can learn, play and grow up better. In our projects, hundreds of boys and girls receive nutritious school meals every day and receive regular medical care. We carry out worming treatments and educate parents and guardians on how to feed their children a healthy diet.

Pregnant women receive high-calorie food and vitamins at our nutrition centers so that they can take good care of their babies - even after birth.

Health insurance - protection for the whole family

Thanks to the support of our ora sponsors, we finance health insurance for children and their families. This means that sick children and their parents can go to the doctor without fear of high costs. In countries where there is no insurance, for example in Sierra Leone or Liberia, we cover the costs of visits to the doctor and important check-ups.

Education prevents diseases

With our hygiene and tooth brushing courses, we show children and their parents how important it is to look after their own bodies and prevent illness through hygiene. We not only teach practical skills, but also raise awareness of the physiological relationships in order to promote a healthy approach to one's own body.

Clean toilets

Clean water and toilets are vital for children. That is why we are building toilets in central locations such as schools and installing portable washbasins. This way, all children can wash their hands regularly and stay healthy.
