They are often denied healthy nutrition, education and medical care. This is precisely where our child sponsorships come in: They offer regular and sustainable support so that children grow up healthy and in dignity.

As a young boy, László from Romania would never have believed that he would one day stand on the world's great stages and be celebrated. He grew up with his brother and mother in very poor circumstances. His father had left the family and the little money they had was often not even enough for the bare necessities. László was no stranger to hunger.

Everything changed when he became a sponsor. László regularly received food, clothing and the school materials he needed. The support and pastoral care also relieved his mother of a great burden, which enabled László to grow up more carefree.

László was an ora sponsored child until he finished school. During this time, he developed into a self-confident young man with a clear goal in mind: music. "ora helped me to realize my dream," he says gratefully today. "Without this support, I would never have had the opportunity to dedicate myself to music. The worries about day-to-day survival would have been too overwhelming."

Today, László is co-founder of the band Bagossy Brothers Company, which he founded together with his brother. With 89,000 subscribers on Facebook and 143,000 on YouTube, the band is known far beyond Romania's borders.

The children sponsored by ora Kinderhilfe live in Eastern Europe (Albania, Republic of Moldova and Romania) and in Africa (Burundi, Kenya, Liberia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Malawi, South Africa).

How can I become an ora child sponsor?

You can become an ora sponsor in just a few steps by phone or via our online sponsorship form. Choose a child or we will suggest one, enter your details in the form and receive your welcome pack in the post a few days later.

There is also the option for us to send you a proposal by e-mail or post. Please let us know the desired age, gender or country of the ora sponsored child as well as your name and e-mail address or postal address and you will receive an information package a few days later. If you agree with the proposal, all you have to do is sign the declaration of consent and we will take care of everything. We will pay the postage for the declaration of consent.

How does an ora child sponsorship help?

An ora child sponsorship is the most personal and sustainable form of support for a child. As a child sponsor, you support the child, their family and the entire community. The first step is to provide the child with everything it needs. It receives sufficient food, clothing, school materials and medical care. In the second step, we help the parents and take care of income-generating measures. In the third step, we support the entire community. We build a well, a school or install solar panels. The communities are also supported by training courses and seminars on life and everyday topics as well as Christian programs.

How does ora select sponsored children?

The need of the individual decides who is accepted into the sponsorship program. The greater the need, the more urgent the admission to the program and the more urgent the search for an ora sponsor.

How will my money be used?

The ora sponsors support their sponsored child with around EUR 1 per day or EUR 35 per month. The money entrusted to us is used in such a way that the greatest possible benefit is achieved - for the sponsored child, their family and the community in which the child lives. These three things are financed by a sponsorship contribution. ora Kinderhilfe uses the sponsorship contributions efficiently and sustainably. The responsible handling of donations is confirmed by the seal of the German Central Institute for Social Issues (DZI). We have been awarded the seal without interruption since 2005.

Can I write to my godchild?

You can write to your sponsored child at any time to deepen your relationship. You can write your letter in German or English and send it to us by post or e-mail. You can include photos or stickers. We will translate your letter if necessary and forward your e-mail or take your post with us on our next project trip.

Can I visit my godchild?

You are very welcome to visit your sponsored child and see for yourself how your sponsored child and the project are progressing. Our sponsorship trips are the best way to do this. We travel to the project countries with up to twelve people and give you a comprehensive insight into the country, its people and our work. If you would like to meet your sponsored child independently of the sponsorship trips, we will support you with the preparations. The protection of our sponsored children is very important to us, which is why visits to the sponsored child are not possible without consultation with us.

Can I also take on an ora sponsorship as a group?

You can take on an ora sponsorship as an individual, as a family or as a group. As a group, you can easily share a sponsorship. This type of sponsorship is particularly suitable for Bible study groups, youth groups, school classes or clubs. We need the address of the main sponsor so that we can send the post and donation receipts to them. Please let us know what is best for you. We will be happy to meet your individual wishes.

How long does an ora child sponsorship last?

The special thing about ora Kinderhilfe is that an ora child sponsorship only ends when the child finishes school and not automatically at the age of 16 or 18. In this way, we ensure that the girls and boys have the best opportunities to learn a profession and provide for themselves with dignity. Educational biographies are often interrupted in poorer countries, which is why it is possible that a child will complete their schooling later than usual. If a child moves and thus leaves the project area, a sponsorship ends prematurely.

Do I enter into a contractual obligation with an ora sponsorship?

With an ora sponsorship, you do not enter into any contractual obligation. You can terminate it at any time without giving reasons.

What does an ora child sponsorship cost?

A child sponsorship with ora Kinderhilfe costs EUR 35 per month. In doing so, you support the child, its family and the entire community, thus enabling sustainable development.

Who does ora Kinderhilfe work with locally?

In our project countries, we work exclusively with local project partners. They are the experts on the ground and know what is possible and necessary in the project country. The project partners form the bridge to the sponsored children and their families.

Can I claim my donations for tax purposes?
